feat. Smoke of Oldominion, 2Mex, Open Mike Eagle, Kosha Dillz, MC Pigpen, Kthei, Xololanxinxo, C-Fost, James Vega aka Ape9, & Everybody Knows. Produced by Smoke of Oldominion & guest Production by: Everybody Knows.
JAMES BARRIE is a recording/visual artist currently residing in Honolulu, Hawaii. Having grown up everywhere from California to
Hawaii to Texas to New Mexico, James takes the experiences of the
prototypical nomadic artist and infuses them with his music. Among the
hundreds of thousands of ”rappers” out and about, James belongs to a
rare breed, one that by some strange luck sees everything and knows
everyone. These hip hop Forrest Gumps were there for the musical
equivalents of playing ping pong against China, the exposition of
Nixon and the entire Vietnam War. James’ travels have taken him across
literally every state in America, with acts such as The Chicharones,
JFK (Grayskul), Open Mike Eagle, and K-The-I???, Matre, Factor, Ceschi Ramos.
JAMES BARRIE started composing songs during his teenage years, as a
ward of the state shuttled between Texas, Honolulu and San Pedro. It
was also during this time that his distinctive style of painting
developed, a talent that would land many gigs, commissions and a
couple record deals. After revolutionizing the divided rap and indie
scenes in Hawaii, he made his way up to San Francisco, meeting and
subsequently forging bonds with the likes of fledgling Kool AD (Das
Racist) and Ceschi (Fake Four), among numerous others. Before anyone
knew it 2007 rolled around, and James found himself signed to Grimm
Image Records, a San Bernardino powerhouse that put him alongside LA
underground legends such as 2mex and Xololanxinxo, as well as
Northwest collaborative effort Candy’s .22.
Alongside Grimm and offshoot label Los Feo Faces, James now plays the
background, orchestrating shows, albums, cover art and viral videos
while the unsuspecting underground hip hop scene remains clueless as
to how all these wonderful things could possibly pop into existence.
After masterminding the 2011 Feo Faces release, ”Haters Camp”, James
continued to grind out music. This upcoming year sees the release of
the solo EP Sons Of Mammon, and his 4-year opus, Carpal Tunnel.”
